Time to Mecwork

The theme this year will be innovation, and the week, which begins on May 12th, will see a series of networking events taking place at venues across Merseyside.

One of the highlights of Mecworking is an audience with a businesswoman whose company has thrived on innovation and invention to meet its customers’ expectations.

Michelle Mone, founder of MJM International and the Ultimo lingerie brand, the creators of the Wonderbra, will give her unique opinions on entrepreneurship and succeeding in business, at a lunch at Colours Restaurant, St Helens, on May 16th.

The BIG Merseyside Business Debate will take place at Aintree Racecourse on 13th May, providing a unique platform for entrepreneurs to give their views on a range of issues from barricades to entrepreneurship, innovative solutions, taxation, regulation and the global economy.

The panel will be hosted by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Roger Phillips and will include top entrepreneurs plus national business lobbyists.

‘Practical Skills for Entrepreneurs’ is a day of seminars taking place on Wednesday May 14th at Il Palazzo, right in the heart of Liverpool’s Business District. The day will cover a range of topics from what to do with your business idea, to finding your markets.

Thursday May 15th will provide a further networking opportunity with a celebration of entrepreneurial innovation in Merseyside at the Liverpool World Museum. Professor Phil Redmond, Deputy Chairman of the Liverpool Culture Company, will host the event which will showcase local innovative companies and debate the role of culture and creativity in developing new products and services.

Mecworking Week was launched following the publication of the Merseyside Entrepreneurship Commission Report, which recommended an annual event dedicated to encouraging entrepreneurship and business in Merseyside.

Merseyside Entrepreneurship Co-ordinator, Mark Hancock, says: “Last year’s Mecworking Week was extremely well attended and we are looking to repeat that success this year with another great line up.

“One of the main ideas behind Mecworking Week is that the best way to learn about business is from other successful businesses and so we aim to offer something for everyone from fledgling businesses to established ones.”
