Dianne Marshall and Dianne Marshall Hair
1. What is your business?
Dianne Marshall Hair specialises in premium quality Russian Hair Extensions. We work with a lot of women who want extensions for very different reasons. Some of my clients wish to have a longer, fuller head of hair whereas others may have a medical condition or generally find that the hair is thinning. At Dianne Marshall Hair we are able to offer a complete hair management system and our team is highly qualified and experienced in dealing with any condition you may have with your hair.
2. Why did you start it?
I came back to Liverpool due to family commitments and realised that there was no one offering the kind of hair extensions to the quality of my standards. The only hair extensions available to the public were the old bonded types, which can cause the natural hair to weaken. I started working freelance and very quickly created a demand. So 13 years ago I set up my business inside Herbert’s salon, and moved to Age Perfecting Treatments on Hanover Street in 2007. Since then we have expanded our services, incorporating the complete salon hair care due to demand from our regular clients.
3. What makes you unique?
Dianne Marshall Hair provides a completely bespoke service for all our clients. At the initial consultation we take several measurements of the scalp and the desired length to allow for a hand made weft to be made. The colour and strand are perfectly matched to ensure that it compliments your natural hair and texture. Once fitted a regular monthly consultation takes place to re-tighten the hair and reposition the braids onto which the weft is sown, helping to prevent any strain on the natural hair. The effect is stunning! I personally takes care of the hair needs for many local celebrities, including Jennifer Ellison, Abbey Clancy and Colleen McLoughlin. The key to great extensions starts with the quality of the hair. We hand make all of our wefts in Liverpool and after 14 years working with my suppliers, I have access to the best quality hair.
4. What did you do before?
I trained as a hairdresser in Liverpool and went out to LA to develop my skills when I was 17. While there, I worked in some of the highest profile salons in Hollywood, and soon enough I was working on some of the most famous faces on the planet. It was my work on films which took me travelling, ending up spending three months in India working as a hairdresser on Jungle Book. With the training I received in the Weft Technique of hair replacement and extensions, led to my work on Titanic. Getting Kate Winslet ready for filming was a real highlight and so was working with Gwyneth Paltrow for Shakespeare in Love.
5. What are your plans to make the most of Capital of Culture?
2008 is just the start for Dianne Marshall Hair. We are committed to quality and our ladies have high expectations, so we work hard to be the best in our industry. I believe that once the Liverpool 1 development opens in May, this end of the city will be a different place and right now we are in the middle of the building. I really can’t wait to see it all completed.
6. Do you have any tips?
You are never too old to learn, commit to being the best you can be and raise your own standards. It’s always worked for me.
